Year One - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

A warm welcome to all students and families to the 2025 school year! We look forward to welcoming our students to the Jerusalem community of 2025.  Over the first few days, we will focus on revising routines such as lining up in role order, and our school wide expectations of Safety, Respect and Learning. We are looking forward to the many different learning opportunities we will have and can’t wait to share these exciting experiences with you.

Next week we are learning about 

Next week’s learning:

Religious Education focus: Students will be learning about Respect as taught by Jesus and how we can incorporate this to our daily lives as a St. Thomas Community member.

English focus: Students will be learning to enhance their writing by focusing on the ‘who’ and ‘what’ sentence writing prompts. Revision of sounds previously taught, specifically ‘sh’

Mathematics focus: Students will be exploring different types of data.

SEL: ‘Getting to know you activities’ and students will be learning to identify and self-manage their emotions as well as social awareness to understand and empathise with the emotions of others. 

AUSLAN Focus: We will be revisiting Units 1this week refreshing our memories of simple signs and how to spell our name in AUSLAN.

Reminders

• All students are required to wear a wide brim hat for recess and lunch time
• Students need an art smock for Visual Art
• Extra fruit or vegetables for fruit break

• Friday 31st Jan - First day for students in Years 1 - 6
• Monday 3rd Feb - All students at school
• Thursday 20th Feb - Open Afternoon and Family Catch-up - 4:45 - 6:45 pm
• Wednesday 5th March - Ash Wednesday, beginning of Lent
• Friday 7th March - Pupil Free Day - Professional Development day for staff
• Monday 10th March -School Closure - Labour Day Public Holiday
