From the 5/6 Classrooms
Literacy: Poetry
This week we started to explore diamante poetry writing style. Students chose two nouns and used adjectives and verbs to highlight similarities and differences. After reading and analysing the book Fire by Jackie French, the students were challenged to write in a poetry style of their choice about natural disasters. They had another poetry writing activity, where they selected a poem about natural landscapes of Australia and rewrote the poem in another perspective.
Numeracy: Food Truck (continued from last week)
Since the last newsletter the food trucks are well underway. Students have developed a recipe for their product. They have compared prices across different supermarkets and determined the cost of how much it is to make their food. They have chosen a price for their food and decided on the price they will sell their food.
Once they constructed their menu, they then started building their food truck. They needed to include all items that are necessary for running a food truck such as ovens and counters.
STEM: Shark Tank
Students are working in small groups to recreate a product. They need to decide on a product and redesign it, so that customers will choose their product over their competitors' products. They have to create a pitch just like participants in Shark Tank.
Grade 6 STOMP
The Grade 6 cohort have been rehearsing day and night in preparation for graduation. We had the organisation STOMP to come in and create choreography. The students are pumped to show their families at graduation and also present at the final assembly for everyone.
Grade 5 End of Year Celebration
A Recount Written by Ivy 5SB
The 5th of December was the date of a rather special event. In year 5, there was a break up party, celebrating the completion of year 5 and eventually moving into Year 6. It was also meant to celebrate all of our hard work in Keen Green Team! Here, you will see our timetable for the special day.
Morning
In the morning, we visited Leigh Park. Some of us played on the playground, while others finger knitted, read or wrote. Some of us also enjoyed sitting and chatting with our friends, while others played sport on the large oval! We stayed until about a few minutes before recess, then we walked back to school to eat our snack.
Between Recess and Lunch
When we returned from recess play, we were taken to the Gallery to view the movie Ron's Gone Wrong. We watched until roughly halfway through the movie, so we could walk back to our classrooms in order to enjoy pizza, garlic bread and Zooper Doopers!
Special thanks to Jana Milosevic (David's parent) for preparing the delicious feast!
At lunch, the BPPS Rock Band performed outside the hall, they were amazing!
After Lunch
After lunch, the Year 5s finished Ron's Gone Wrong, and returned to our classroom for home time!
Thank you for reading!
