Our Island Home
This term, students have been diving into the fascinating world of geography! They've explored a variety of topics that have broadened their understanding of our planet. Here’s a look at what they've learned:
- Climate Zones: Students investigated the different climate zones in Australia and around the world, gaining a deeper understanding of how climate shapes the environment.
- Food Chains: They researched animal diets and feeding relationships, with a particular focus on the unique ecosystem of the Daintree Rainforest.
- Biomes: Students explored the concept of biomes, learning how climate and vegetation influence the types of living organisms that thrive in different regions.
- Australia’s Minerals and Rock Formations: They studied the country’s geological features, practicing mapping skills by labelling various places and rock formations on maps.
In addition, students explored the symbols, values, and identities of Australia's neighbouring island nations, gaining insight into the rich cultural diversity of the region.
The unit culminated in a collaborative project where students worked in small groups to plan, model, and map their own island. They also developed values for their island, designed a flag, and wrote a national anthem to reflect their island’s identity.
