Student Voice :                         Springvale Campus

We cannot believe that the end of the year is nearly here! This term has been filled with countless fun and memorable events for everyone in our school community. One of the highlights was the Springvale Rise Cup in Week 8, an exciting new tradition led by the SLC. And another was a very special opportunity to meet Uncle Josh West and learn more about Aboriginal culture through some fun activities. These are just a couple of examples of the incredible experiences we've had this term, and we are so excited to see what the last week of the term will bring us.

The MLC and SLC students underwent their highly anticipated PAT tests, which included both reading and maths assessments. Every student had diligently refined the skills they had learnt at school, resulting in impressive personal achievements. The level of effort put in during the tests was outstanding, with students refusing to be discouraged by challenging questions. The teachers were truly impressed by the remarkable growth made since the last PAT tests!

In Week 8, the SLC had a competition between the Heights and Springvale campuses called the Springvale Rise Cup. The students participated in a series of sporting events to determine which campus was the best. Each campus had four teams: soccer, netball, and a cheering squad to support us during the games. Both campuses had so much fun and showed exceptional sportsmanship! However, there could only be one winner, and the Springvale Campus brought home the trophy!

Our visit by Uncle Josh to our school to share his culture and knolwedge of the Bunurong people with the Year 4 and Year 5 students was fanatstic. He began with a smoking ceremony, where each student walked through the smoke to cleanse themselves. It is believed that the smoke removes negative energy. After the ceremony, Uncle Josh shared some great stories from his life, including how a kangaroo once protected him and became his totem. He also played the yidaki, an Aboriginal instrument, and showed the students how to create their own Indigenous artwork. Everyone had a wonderful morning and they hope he comes back to the school again next year.

It is a very special time for the Year 6 students as we prepare for graduation and for secondary college. This week, we had the amazing opportunity to visit our high schools and get a feel for what next year will be like! This was an experience that most of us will never forget. To learn more about our new schools, we participated in activities designed to welcome us and prepare us for this new chapter in our lives.

The Year 6s have also recently had their Celebration Day where we worked collaboratively in Escape Room type activities. There are many more fun activities planned for our final week of primary school!!

Recently, the new student leaders for 2025 completed their interviews, marking an important step in their journey as our future leaders! The Year 5 leaders were tasked with writing a persuasive speech to convince the Principal Team that they were the best choice for their desired roles. We heard that the Principal Team were very impressed, and we are extremely eager and excited to find out who will be in the first group of new leaders.

This year has been an incredible journey, filled with exciting events, learning opportunities, and outstanding achievements. We are so proud of everyone and can't wait to see what next year holds!
