Assistant Principal

Year 11 & 12

In the coming week, year 11 students will be confirming their 2025 programs by completing their subject selections. As the senior school certificate for both VCE and VCE Vocational Major are programs which require a consecutive two-year completion for successful attainment, we expect that very little change of subjects will occur.

On Thursday year 11 students participated in an Elevate presentation during their assembly. The focus of this session was preparing for exams and practicing effective study techniques to enhance learning.  Students completed a series of short activities to provide examples of good practice. These skills will also support learning moving into year 12 studies.

Year 12 students attended an informative careers session delivered by Ms. Jade Charalambous our Careers advisor, which covered vital information regarding preparedness for tertiary studies and options for post year 12. Some of the information included details on the process for applying for courses at universities, the importance of attending open days at universities and the differing entrance schemes to assist students in obtaining a tertiary place. Ms. Charalambous will be meeting with all year 12 students in the coming weeks. Please reach out to her if you or your child have any questions or require further support.

The year 12 English Scholars had their second after school session with Ross Huggard, who delivered an intensive workshop around their year 12 novel “The Memory Police”. During the session they ran through some practice exam responses to place them in good stead for their end of year exam preparation.

We are reaching out to all families to please ensure that your child is arriving to school on time. We have had an influx of lateness to school by senior students. The first lesson starts at 8.40 each day, and if your child habitually arrives late to school and therefore session one class, they are jeopardizing their learning and potentially placing their VCE attainment at risk. Please support the school by ensuring the important life skill of punctuality, is practiced by your child. They should arrive to ensure there is ample time to go to their lockers and get materials ready for their first class.

We are also seeking the support of our families not to organize family holidays during school terms, as prolonged absence from school also places a potential risk of satisfactory completing VCE. Students require 90% attendance to qualify for their VCE. They need to be present in classes to authenticate their learning of the set knowledge and skills. The Education Department has clear guidelines about family vacations and advocates for these to occur during the designated holiday breaks and not during the course of the school terms.

Parent teacher conferences will be taking place on this coming Wednesday the 14th of August. As always please make the time available to attend.  Our ongoing partnership to support your child’s progress is a critical foundation towards their success.
