National Week of Action Against Bullying and Violence

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence has a new name—Bullying No Way: National week of action.

The theme for 2024 is 'Everyone belongs'.

When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.

Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.

Children and young people who know what bullying is and know what to do about it if it happens, also know they are not alone in dealing with it. They know that parents and school staff will be willing to help if needed.

Parents and teachers can use the opportunities that arise to talk with children and young people about how people behave in various social situations and how people get on with each other.

If a child or young person tells you about things at school or you observe something in public that involves conflict or bullying, and if it is appropriate, take the opportunity to talk about what bullying is.

Tell children that bullying can happen to anyone, but it is never okay. Talk about how to respond to bullying safely. Make sure children know what to do if it happens to them or they see it happening to someone else

This week all students in Years 7 to 10 will take part in whole school assemblies that will address this issue. I will be informing students about the effects of bullying and how to manage it.

If anybody needs assistance or advice with this issue, please contact the school on 9463 7300 or visit the following website - https://bullyingnoway.gov.au/

2024 Planning

The school commenced planning for the educational program in 2025 at the beginning of this Term. It takes a lot of time and effort to have this process completed and requires parents and students in Years 8 to 11 to engage with the process so an extensive elective program can be delivered. Subject selections for Years 9 to 12 close on Friday the 16th of August.

If your child has not involved themselves in this process, they are not currently being included in the 2-2025 planning process. They will eventually be included in the process as ongoing students at the college, however if they want choice that is specific to their wants and needs, they need to engage with the school and complete the online selection process. If for any reason a student has not completed the online subject selection process, please have them speak to their sub-school leader immediately to assist them in completing this important process.

Parent Responsibilities and Actions

Traffic Management – can I ask that all parents please drive carefully around the school during pick up and drop off times. The school has recently added 2 more pedestrian gates for students to exit from so they do not have to share the carpark exit with cars entering and leaving the school.

Parents should not be using the staff carparks as drop off areas. This keeps the gates open which draws students to exit from these areas. This then causes shared paths with students and cars. This is not something that we want and can be avoided by not using these spaces as drop off areas.

School Production

The school production will run next week on Thursday the 22nd and Friday the 23rd of August. The students and supporting staff have been working extremely hard to get this show running and I look forward to attending to see the final result. I have no doubt it will be amazing.

There are still some available tickets, so if you haven’t already bought a ticket please go online and get one while you can.

Professional Practice Day

The school will run its only Professional Practice Day on Thursday the 5th of September. This is a student free day, and all students will not attend on this day.

If there are any questions or concerns about the following information, please contact me on 9463 7300.
