Lots Of Opportunities To Be Involved In Things Indonesian This Term!

GURU BANTU

Bapak Bayu Prihantoro is joining us from Indonesia for the first four weeks of Term Three.

He is a fully qualified teacher in Indonesia with a bachelor in fine arts. While with us he will be helping me in the classroom and running several extra projects for students outside the classroom.

He is staying with me while he is here BUT if anyone would like to host him for an evening, weekend outing, or longer, please get in touch. His English is excellent, he is a bright happy 23 young man with an excellent knowledge of Indonesian culture. Hosting him would be an excellent opportunity to experience a little bit of Indonesia in your own home.

If you see him around the school please say hi!

POSTER COMPETITION

The Victorian Indonesian Language Teacher’s Association is running a poster competition for Indonesia’s Independence Day.

The theme for the posters is Indonesia’s natural beauty. Students can work on these at home or with myself and Bayu in the art room on Friday’s at lunchtime. The posters must be A4 or A3 size and handed in to me by 25 July so that I can submit them to VILTA. Prizes are vouchers worth $50, $40 and $30. Students can speak to our Indonesian student leaders (Isla, Eleanor, Nabil, Kaeley and Kala) for more Information.

LANGUAGE LEADERS

This is an opportunity for 20 grade 5/6 students.

Student leaders began promoting this last term but the organisors needed to postpone and it will now be held at the end of this term. The language leaders will have a 2 hour incursion where they learn how to play a game in Indonesian. They will then use their new language skills to teach 40 junior students how to play the game. While incursion is a one off, if the language leaders are keen, I can help them continue the project to teach the rest of the junior cohort.

Our student leaders will be handing out application forms soon, the desire to learn is way more important than students existing language skills…. A very exciting opportunity for the lucky 20 successful applicants!

HARI MERDEKA

Indonesia’s Independence day is August 17. This year that falls on a Saturday. The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia has invited me to attend the official flag raising ceremony and following celebrations with up to 15 students from BNWP. The festivities will go for about two hours starting at 8pm. More details on this next week but please get in touch if you or your child/children would like to attend.

We will be celebrating Hari Merdeka out our school a week early, on Bapak Bayu’s last day with us, Friday 10 August. Our student Indonesian leaders will be working with Bapak Bayu on how to celebrate this year so watch out for more news on Hari Merdeka celebrations from them!
