Shukutoku Visit
What an exciting time at Derinya welcoming our first group of Japanese students for this year! The eighteen students from Shukutoku Elementary School in Tokyo spent eight days in our school community, enjoying learning time and cultural exchange activities with our Grade 3-6 classes.
Sakamoto-sensei and Taylor-sensei were so proud of everyone practising their Japanese phrases and caring for the Japanese students during their stay. The Shukutoku students enjoyed Aussie art, footy skills, bush dancing and the Nutbush together! They also shared traditional Japanese toys and games with our Derinya classes and performed at assembly.
Many thanks to the host classes and host families. Our Shukutoku friends returned safely to their homes in Tokyo last night, just as we welcomed our next delegation of Japanese friends from Frankston’s sister city, Susono! Let’s continue to enjoy these opportunities to make friends with Japanese kids and make them welcome in our friendly Derinya community.
