Species Survival - More than just sustainability
The 2024 school theme for National Science Week is Species Survival - More than just sustainability. This theme aims to highlight the importance of scientific research, technological advancements, and innovative solutions in addressing the challenges faced by diverse species across the globe. It emphasises that survival goes beyond mere existence; it involves creating conditions that allow species to flourish, adapt, and maintain ecological balance.
Our goal for National Science Week is to inspire and empower our students to become future conservationists and environmental stewards. Through engaging activities, hands-on experiments, and thought-provoking discussions, students will gain a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of all life forms and the impact of human activities on biodiversity.
Interactive Learning Experiences
Throughout the week, students will participate in a variety of interactive learning experiences. From studying the adaptations of different species to understanding the role of ecosystems in species survival, these activities will encourage students to think critically about the environment and the importance of conservation. Excursions and workshops, including trips to the Sydney Zoo, a Q&A session with Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki, and interactive workshops, will provide students with firsthand experiences of the efforts being made to protect and preserve biodiversity.
Community Engagement
National Science Week is an opportunity for our entire community to come together in support of species survival. Community members are encouraged to participate in events, volunteer, and contribute to our collective efforts to promote sustainability and conservation. Together, we can create a network of support that extends beyond the classroom and into the broader community.
