Year 7 & 8 Girls Soccer

On August 1st, the Year 8 Girls soccer team ventured to Darebin State Football Centre to compete in Regionals. Their strong performance at Division saw BHHS placed in a tough pool with Rowville, Brentwood and Ringwood. The fierce competition saw the girls finishing with two losses and a draw. A fantastic show of sportsmanship and teamwork by all who attended, well done!

August 8th saw our Year 7 Girls soccer team head to Darebin State Football Centre to compete in the Regional competition. The cold weather had the team shivering through their first two losses to Brentwood and Ringwood. The sunshine peeked through the clouds in time for the final game against Heritage College, with goals from Abbey M and Seyun C to keep the game to a 2-2 draw and secure third place on the ladder. Special mentions to Roxanne C and Nicole A for taking time off their VCE to coach the girls through the last two rounds.

 EMR Year 7 Girls Netball

The Year 7 Girls netball team played regionals on August 7th at Waverly Netball Centre and finished in second place. The team started the day strong with two convincing victories before facing Rowville in the final pool game. The girls pushed Rowville all the way but went down 23-17.

This meant that we had to play the undefeated Lilydale in the semi-final. The girls stepped up their game to win easily and set up a rematch against Rowville but unfortunately we ran out of legs and Rowville got the better of us in the final.

Huge effort by the girls who will be competing for state titles in future years. Big thanks to Ms. Penny Danks, Ms. Kylie Pearson and Mieke N (Year 11) for coaching the team. Well done to the team which consisted of Audrey W, Abbey M, Kesha B, Emma R, Laila B, Chloe B, Aimee L-N, Georgia W and Eden N

EMR Senior Girls AFL

The Senior Girls AFL team played at Elgar Park on July 22nd and almost came away victorious. The team had several illnesses and injuries to key players in the lead up to the event but still showed they were up to the challenge.

The first match against Mooroolbark saw us go down by 4 points after being down by 12 at half time. The second match against Wheelers Hill saw the girls win by 19 points including a 60 metre goal from Jemima F and two goals from Lyla R. Well done to the team, especially to the Year 12s who played their final game of school sport. Thanks also to the girls who came into the team at the last minute as replacements.

EMR Junior & Senior Boys Netball

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Boys netball teams who attended the EMR finals on Monday 29th July. Both teams played exceptionally well, making it through to the semi-finals.

The Juniors were tied at 5-5 in their semi-final, but unfortunately a very strong performance by Vermont Secondary in the second half saw them run out victorious.

What an amazing day and outcome for the Senior Boys team. They played three matches, losing to Brentwood by six goals and finishing second in Pool A… but all was not lost! They went on to play first positioned team in Pool B, winning against Balwyn High School by a close two points! This resulted in a rematch against Brentwood in the finals. The boys, coached by Ms. Gyarmathy, played smart and strategic netball which won them the game and flag!

The Senior Boys netball team will now be playing at state level in September - they are looking forward to the challenge!

EMR Senior Girls Soccer

The Senior Girls Soccer team took the field at Darebin Sports Complex after successfully navigating their way through the Whitehorse Division round earlier in Term 2. Our girls were pumped with excitement and ready to give it their all for the school as we arrived at the venue. For many of the Year 12s in our team this was potentially the last Senior Sporting Day of their schooling lives.

Our first match was against the girls from Ringwood Secondary College who matched us in all areas. The game was played in high spirits and a few chances went begging. After the 30 minutes was all said and done, the score remained at nil all.

This result, though tough and hard fought, meant we required a win in the final match of the day against a strong outfit in Wellington. The girls again put up more than a good fight and dominated the first half and most of the second 15 before an errant ball slipped by our keeper breaking the deadlock and providing what would soon be Wellington's much needed points to progress.

Our girls had a couple of dire last minute chances to equalise and make it tough for the rest of the competition but luck was not on our side and it was not meant to be on the day.

Our team represented the school with pride and all enjoyed themselves thoroughly. We even had praise from officials at the complex and lovely words from opposition officials as well. Our girls should be honoured to have made it as far as they did and we wish them well for the remainder of the school year.

BHHS best players on the day: Roxane C, Ana C-P, Scarlett T, Katrina C, Nicole A and Chloe B.

State Cross Country Results

On July 16th, seven Box Hill High School students travelled to Yarra Glen Racecourse to compete in State Cross Country. Although the weather did not cooperate and the track resembled a paddock, all students put in a fantastic effort to represent the school at such a high level.

Well done to Katie H, Kate H, Will L, Jessie M, Claire M, Sienna M, Lucy S and Josette T.  Extra special mention for Sienna, who placed second, and to the U12/13 girls (Sienna, Katie, Claire and Lucy) who placed first overall in the team competition.
