Primary School

We were seeing green in Primary School as students and staff celebrated Mokare Day today with green accessories and a yummy cake stall. Year Five have had a wonderful week at camp and we can look forward to hearing more about that in next week’s newsletter. Year Two is very excited about their recently postponed excursion, the ‘Magical Mystery History Tour’ which will now be happening tomorrow.

Primary Christian Studies Programme

With the recent departure of our school chaplain Mrs Naomi Cooper, the Primary School Christian studies programme continues, pairing our Christian values with age-appropriate experiences. The structure involves a variety of activities tailored to particular year levels and led by teachers who hold strengths in each area.

Early Childhood Pre-Primary to Year Two

Students in Pre-Primary to Year Two will partake in joyous congressional singing of songs that are fun and uplifting, learning and leading us in new numbers for our Primary Chapel services.

Year Three

Ms Lauren Truscott will teach the Year Three students to use art to create pieces aligned with Christian stories and the key values we promote at GSG.

Year Four

Year Four will take an exciting look at values in action and literature with Mrs Lisa Keatch and Ms Gracie Laneaux-Neale.

Year Five

Mr Stephen Berryman will lead the Year Five students in acts of service, primarily in the Early Years.

Year Six

Miss Katie Gunning will lead the Year Six cohort to explore Christian values and stories through multi-media experiences.

Primary School Katanning Netball Carnival

Great Southern Grammar entered two teams into the annual Primary Schools Netball Carnival Competition being held in Katanning on Friday 2 August. I would like to congratulate the students not only for their performances on the court but for their behaviour and sportsmanship displayed throughout the day, representing the school with pride. My thanks also to the two wonderful Year Ten umpires, Teagan Pears and Emily Harvey, both displaying great leadership and umpiring skills throughout the competition.

Thank you also to our coaches Ms Mel Pears (Year Six girls) and Miss Carys Nichols (Year Six boys) who lead our students throughout the day with passion and great coaching skills. Our boys had a tough day in Division A result wise, but developed their skills and understanding throughout, competing right up until the last game. Our girls came up against some very strong netball teams throughout the day in Division A, narrowly missing out on a grand final spot by 0.6%.

Well done and thank you to all that were involved in the day.

Mr Stephen Berryman | Primary School Sports Coordinator
