Push-Up Challenge

A big thank you to Mary Witham for bringing to school this great challenge which made us all have a think about mental health. Many students have made significant contributions to GSG by participating in the Push-Up Challenge, reflecting our assembly theme of active contribution and engagement. GSG had 86 participants across 11 teams, raising $1,553. Team Baudin raised the most funds, with Mr Fullarton contributing $175 and completing all his push-ups. Our collective effort resulted in 144,867 push-ups over a month.

Congratulations to Team Mokare for achieving the most push-ups overall, with 40,545, and for having the most team members. The Year Eight boys team did the most push-ups per person, with 2,382.

Across Australia, 218,000 people participated in the push-up challenge, including 33,000 school students. Every student at GSG who contributed, even by helping a friend, improved awareness for mental health and encouraged healthy behaviours.

Well done to everyone involved!

Mokare Day

Mokare Day took place today. The Mokare leaders organised an exciting full dress-up day with the theme ‘Icons of the World.’ This theme invited students and staff to get creative and dress up as an iconic band, landmark, food, or character.

The day’s festivities included a cake stall at recess, offering a delicious selection of treats.

The highlight of the day was the highly anticipated student vs staff netball game at lunchtime.

Participants and spectators alike were asked to bring spare change for a gold coin donation. This small contribution allowed them to indulge in the cake stall and also support a worthy cause.

All funds raised during Mokare Day will be donated to the RUAH Foundation, a respected non-profit organisation based in Western Australia. The RUAH Foundation is dedicated to providing vital services, including family support, mental health care, housing, homelessness assistance, and legal support to those in need.

This initiative exemplifies the school community's spirit of giving and engagement, demonstrating how we can come together to make a positive impact.

Book Week

You will have read in the Daily Notices that Book Week is happening in Week Six! This national event is all about fostering a love for books and reading, promoting literacy, and highlighting the importance of stories in our lives. On Thursday 22 August, we will have a whole school dress-up day. We are fortunate to celebrate reading as a whole school community, and this year's theme is "The Magic of Reading."

GSG readers, you are encouraged to dress up as a character from a book with a magical theme. You can do this in groups of two, three, or more, or go solo. Let your creativity soar but remember to follow our usual dress-up rules. Keep an eye on the Daily Notices for updates on competitions and activities during Book Week in Week Six. Get some ideas, get excited, and let's make this Book Week magical!
