Active Engagement

This week at GSG, we have discussed active engagement with students.

To be actively engaged is to play your part in our learning community.

Our community is made up of families, students and staff – every member brings their unique talents and gifts to our school each day.  Unity in our diversity exists, we celebrate individual and collective success and our culture shapes our identity, giving us a deep sense of pride.

Without active engagement from each one of us, we are in danger of shaping a culture of passive disengagement that adversely impacts the fabric of our school. We must uphold our values and culture if we are going to grow together, be united and capture the spirit that binds us.

Over recent days, we have been engaged in the Olympics. We have ridden the highs and lows of our national teams and individual athletes pursuing their dreams. As we have watched, we have been captured by their stories of great joy, and sometimes sorrow.

We have experienced pride in our nation and captured a spirit of excitement. It has been like we have been living the lives of our sporting heros in every moment. We have been actively engaged.

We are one body with many parts. We must play our part in building up our school, shaping a vibrant culture of individual and collective success so we might realise our united spirit.

  • How are you going to actively engage in school life to build up the body?
  • How are you going to contribute to a spirit of unity and growth in this place?

Important Information

The Principal Challenge #3 is joining me and the Great Southern Grammar team of student leaders in participating in the Albany Big Sleep Out on Saturday 24 August 2024.

The Big Sleep Out is an annual fundraising initiative that encourages us to get out of our comfort zone for one night to raise funds for the less fortunate in our community who are homeless.

All funds raised goes directly to Albany's unique Housing Crisis Response Fund which has been established to assist those that are homeless, disadvantaged or in crisis.

The Principal Challenge #3 is to take up the opportunity to join us in the sleep out or donate money to the team in our pursuit of raising $7,500. Donations can made at: https://albanys-big-sleep-out-2024.raiselysite.com/greatsoutherngrammar

In support of this cause, our Year Eleven Certificate IV Business students have developed a project to involve our students and contribute to the fundraising effort.

They will be hosting a cake stall on 22 August 2024 and an activities program during lunch time for all students.

Secondary School students are encouraged to wear their dressing gowns to school and all students are encouraged to give a gold coin donation.

This day will also coincide with the 2024 Book Week Dress Up Day in the Primary and Secondary School.

As we continue this journey in 2024, I would like to invite interested parents/guardians to come to a coffee morning to discuss celebrations, areas for improvement, and ideas for the future.

Corinthians Chapter 12:

There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all...... for as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body... and have all been made to drink into one Spirit. For in fact the body is not one member but many.
