Annual fundraising trivia night - Saturday 14th September save the date
Later this term, our fundraising parents will be running the highpoint of our annual school social calendar - the Parent Trivia Night.
This year the event will be held next door at the St Kilda Sports Club (the Bowlo) and will be taking place on Saturday 14th September, between 7pm - 11pm.
Further details will follow in the next couple of weeks, including the theme and ticket booking details.
For now, just make sure you have saved the date in your diaries and booked a babysitter for what will be an amazing night.
Swimming
As you would know, Our F-2 classes are swimming every day this week. Lessons are going well and it has been great to see already how confidence in the water is improving for so many students.
We understand that many parents and carers are keen to attend to support with changing and we really value and appreciate this support.
To do this, please ensure that you have provided Wendy with a copy of your Working With Children's card (a requirement for all volunteers engaged in Child Related work) and let your child's teacher know you plan to meet them at the pool.
This is a requirement of our volunteers policy and our Child Safe approach.
Any parents without a current WWC card are welcome to attend the pool, they will just not be able to enter the changing area before or after each lesson.
Any parents, carers or relatives who do not have a Working With Children's card can apply for a volunteer card here. These are free and will allow you to volunteer and support with future school activities (as well as at sports clubs and other organisations and events involving children and young people). When you receive your card, please provide a copy to Wendy at the office and we will add you to our database.
Thanks for your understanding in keeping our students safe.
Urban Adventurers - new after school club!
This term has seen a brand new extra-curricular opportunity start at SKiPPS.
The Urban Adventurers Club is designed for students with a keen interest in nature and the world around us. Students are collected straight after school every Monday and take part in activities in the park until 5pm.
Over the past two sessions, the Urban Adventurers have enjoyed playing the 'Meet a Tree' game, looking after the chickens and drinking some Lemon Myrtle tea.
They completed a scavenger hunt in the park discovering magical things like the Velcro like weed 'Cleavers' and a fallen Noisy Minor nest made of natural and human made materials. Dash found an Earth Star fungus and we all observed how it releases its spores!
Some students played a game of 'Marngrook' with the traditional possum-skin football and learned some traditional indigenous words. What a great way to spend an afternoon after school.

Community Safety Forum
Whilst we know that St Kilda is an amazing and unique place to live and learn, we know that concerns about wider community safety sometimes occur.
To provide an opportunity for community members to learn more and ask questions about all aspects of community safety, a forum is taking place this Monday evening and all local residents are invited.
Date: Monday, 5 August
Venue: St Kilda Town Hall
Monday 5 August
Time: 5:15 pm - 7.00pm
Representatives from the Council (Mayor Cunsolo) & Vic Police (police Inspector Brett Coloe) will be advising and sharing information on community safety in St Kilda.
There is also a time for questions and answers. This is a time for you to ask the questions to police and others.
