Celebrating National Simultaneous Storytime at MKC!

A group of Year 7 students enjoyed the chance to join in with National Simultaneous Story Time, with special guest, Principal, Mr Brendan Gill reading the story of The Truck Cat, by Deborah Frenkel.

Joining students all across Australia by coming together to hear a story at 12:00pm, students enjoyed the chance to hear about a beautiful story on love, family, identity and home.

From gumnuts to buttons : a walk through Tasmanian history from an Aboriginal perspective.

Recently, the Year 9 History classes had an incursion with Trish Hodge and Mathius Everett from nita education. From gumnuts to buttons is a visual and interactive activity designed to give students an understanding and empathy for Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples' history. Students imagine they are from one of the nine language groups during the activity - Oyster Bay (Moo-Mairemener people), South East, North East, Ben Lomond, Northern Midlands, Northern (Pallittorre people), North West, South West, and the Big River people; also mentions the Plair-heke-hiller-plue (Emu Bay) people.

The activity is thought-provoking and, for some students and staff, very emotional. It documents how life changed for Tasmanian Aboriginal People after the arrival of the British in 1803 and includes primary sources from the time.

 DanceLife Unite

On Friday 23 May, students from Year 7–12 proudly represented MacKillop at the DanceLife Unite competition.

This event provided a valuable opportunity for students to build confidence and gain stage experience ahead of the Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod in July.

Our dancers delivered outstanding performances across a range of genres, including hip hop, jazz and lyrical, earning two first-place awards and three second-place awards. It was a successful evening for all involved and a proud moment to see the MacKillop uniform take over the stage during the awards presentation!
