Learning Highlights

Building future pathways at MacKillop!

Students enjoyed the chance to discover the wide range of career and subject pathways on offer here at MacKillop. Viewing the Creating Futures Expo with parents and caregivers and attending information sessions.

A room filled with colour, learning and curiosity, each Learning Area created a wonderful display to showcase to students how they could succeed as they continue their learning journey in the Senior Secondary years. With the opportunity to seek guidance and advice from staff on their future decisions, this evening was a vital resource for students exploring their options.

A big thank you to all staff who contributed in making this evening such a success!

Dancing all the way to the Sunshine Coast!

Exploring new opportunities for our future!

Students from Year 10-12 attended the Catholic Education Tasmania, Careers Expo, to discover what pathways can await them after they graduate from MacKillop Catholic College.

It was wonderful to see students engaging with industry professionals and finding new options for their future. With the opportunity to explore a career in the defence force, apprenticeships, hear what's on offer at UTAS and more!

Performing Arts News

May was an action-packed month for our performing arts team, with exciting excursions to the Theatre Royal and Rosny College.

Our Year 9 Acting for Stage and Screen class had the privilege of attending a wildly entertaining performance of Jekyll & Hyde at the Theatre Royal. The show was bold, gritty, and full of surprises, with actors and audience members collaborating to bring this classic tale to life in an unforgettable way. The energy and engagement made for an experience unlike anything students had seen before, one that will undoubtedly stay with them for years to come.

The following week, we took the School of Rock cast, along with our Music, Dance, and Drama students, to see Newsies at Rosny College. The production was lively, vibrant, and bursting with fun, featuring a familiar cast of MacKillop alumni. The talent and enthusiasm on display left our School of Rock cast feeling more inspired than ever as they gear up for our own exciting production.

For a sneak peek of School of Rock, join us at our Launch Night at 6:00pm on Wednesday, June 11 in the Café, just before the MacKillop Trivia Night!

Celebrating Design and Production Talent!

A big congratulations to our Year 11 and 12 Design and Production students, who have just completed their second minor task — a custom-designed clock. These beautiful timepieces were proudly displayed at the Creating Futures expo and showcased the creativity and craftsmanship of our students.

We also held a People’s Choice vote, with the winners announced as:

1st - Cooper Watson

2nd - Gus McLagan

3rd -  Blake Philpott

Students explored Tasmanian minor species timbers, laser cutting and engraving, and resin work. With growing confidence and skills, they now look forward to designing and creating a personal Major Work project. Well done to all!
