School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPBS)

Meet the Wellbeing/SWPBS Team at CSPS
Last year, all members of the CSPS Wellbeing Team completed training/professional learning around the SWPBS (School Wide Positive Behaviour Support) Framework facilitated by the Department of Education Victoria. The SWPBS framework aims to enhance the social, emotional, and behavioural wellbeing of students, leading to improved academic outcomes. There is an emphasis on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviours, providing support for students, and promoting school climate improvement.
Overall, we encourage inclusive practices and aim to foster a culture where all students feel safe, respected and supported. We help create and promote a more positive, predictable and equitable learning environment where everyone thrives.
Our Journey So Far……
* We explored the reasons for implementing the SWPBS Framework and the positive impact it would have on our school.
* The Wellbeing Team completed the SWPBS training.
* The school community worked together to develop our new school values Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Excellence (PRIDE) and vision, ‘Achieving Together’.
* Staff and students worked together to identify the undesirable behaviours observed in classroom and non-classroom settings and determined what the expected or preferred behaviours should be.
* The SWPBS team used the information gathered to create our Matrices of Expected Behaviours which will help the school community establish a common language and identify universal goals for behaviour. Below is an example of one of our Matrices.
* The SWPBS team developed an Action Plan with the support of our IOC (Inclusion Outreach Coach) from the Department of Education. Our IOC also provided the SWPBS team with further professional learning.
* During our whole school ‘Start Up Program’ this year, each class revised our School Values and Vision by participating in a series of class activities. Each section of the Classroom Matrix was also explored daily.
* Matrices of expected behaviours for different settings and activities are being taught and displayed around the school e.g. Assembly, Toilets, Transitions, etc.
* Teachers began work with their students developing Classroom Routines for Entry & Exit, Circle-Time, Mindfulness, End of Lesson, etc. Routines help minimise confusion and maximise instructional time. (Well established routines create a sense of security and predictability.)
* The SWPBS/Wellbeing Team is currently gathering data around playground behaviour in order to help better address the needs of our students.
