Principal's Report

Rohan Cooper

As we move into the back half of Term 2, our school remains a busy place. I continue to enjoy visiting classrooms and seeing the high-quality of learning that is taking place. Our students have also had the opportunity to enjoy a plethora of events this term, including camps, sports days, excursions and incursions, as well as showcasing their work at ‘open afternoons’.

We are now moving into the midst of our assessment and reporting period, with the curriculum day tomorrow dedicated to student assessment, learning task moderation and developing consistency of student reporting protocols. We hope too that, in addition to the King’s Birthday Public Holiday on Monday, that our students can take a breather and prepare for the closing weeks of the term.

As an addendum to this newsletter, we will publish a series of newsletters from a group of our students. Earlier in the year, a team of Year 6 students proposed the idea of a student newsletter to me, and thus the concept of the ‘Student Press’ was developed. This group of students dedicate their own time to produce content and engage our younger students in the process. We hope you enjoy reading their wonderful work alongside this issue.

Last week our Prep and Year 6 families hosted our second ‘cakes for a cause’ event. We had a delicious selection of treats donated by our families, with all proceeds being split between further developing our home reading program in the junior school and going towards a ‘gaga pit’ in the redeveloped senior playground.

Our Parents Association continue to work towards hosting wonderful events for both our students and families. The annual ‘student disco’ will take place on Saturday 14th June, whilst preparations are well underway for our 2025 parent event, a trivia night to be hosted in mid-Term 3. Funds raised from the disco will go towards upgrading our drinking fountains, whilst funds raised from the parent event will go towards upkeeping the condition of classrooms in the traditional building.

This week, Georgia and I have attended the annual Statewide Principal Forum. With guest speakers including the Deputy Premier and State Minister for Education, the Hon. Ben Carroll MP, this was a wonderful opportunity to hear about current priorities from the recently released state budget, as well as current best practices in teaching, learning and wellbeing. Additionally, I will have some extended time outside of the school in coming weeks to support a local school through their mandated school review process. This is always a good opportunity to both help local colleagues and learn more about practice in a similar school.

Thanks for your ongoing support and keep doing your best.

Rohan
