Creating Futures Together

Careers that Combine Maths & Sport

(Source: CAREERSwithSTEM, 26th MAY)

Numbers are a huge part of sport. Data from matches and training sessions gives coaching staff key info, like top speed, number of interactions and distance travelled – knowledge that can help them decide how to best utilise athletes, improve match results or tailor training sessions.

You could be a sports statistician. These number-crunchers gather real-time info on sports performances and use their maths and computer skills to create formulas, programs and apps that turn stats into new data.

Or you can be like Cameron McEvoy, the reigning Olympic champion in the men’s 50m freestyle. He uses maths to improve his sporting performance.

If you’re keen on mixing maths and data with sport, there are plenty of awesome study and career paths to jump on.

A School Based Apprenticeship Success Story😊

Australian School Based Apprenticeships (SBAT) are a great career option, allowing young Australians to commence training for a vocational qualification and earn a wage while completing their senior school certificate.  An SBAT is undertaken part-time while students are still at school.

Sofia Kaplantzis, who is currently completing her VCE VM, is also undertaking an SBAT in Hairdressing as part of the Head Start Program. Sofia is thoroughly enjoying her placement and is picking up valuable industry skills.

In such a short space of time Sofia has demonstrated the ability to work towards acceptable time schedules, use her initiative, communicate effectively in the workplace, and listen and learn new skills. Sofia has quickly adapted to the fast-paced work environment which has impressed her employer.

Well done Sofia! Keep up the good work😊
