ITALIAN

Scavenger Hunt

The Grade 3-6 students tested their Italian knowledge during classes this week.  They went outside and answered questions about the Italian language and culture.  All of the questions were based on their prior learning.  It was something different as the questions were scattered on the playground.

Stay tuned for photos of PIZZA making in the Foundation-2 classes.

SPORT

During our Athletics program in Sport, we have been focusing on relay running with baton changes, throwing for distance (shot shut), and the super tricky 'hop-step-jump' technique used in triple jump.  We are going to continue practicing these particularly difficult skills over the coming weeks as we prepare for the upcoming athletics carnival.

This week has also seen seven of our students represent St Pats at the interschool Cross Country in Moama.  We managed to score some glorious weather and were so enthusiastic as we cheered on our peers and other friends we knew from different schools.   The student's behaviour was exemplary, and we had some amazing results (remembering there are about 100 children in each event!):

  • 9/10 Boys - Ben (25th) and Ryder (27th)
  • 9/10 Girls - Maddi (16th) and Sophie (28th)
  • 11 Boys - Archer (52nd)
  • 12/13 Boys - Colt (26th) and Hamish (54th)

To put the results in perspective, the students who came in the 20's were often only 100m out of qualifying pace! Well done everyone!!

ART

This week we celebrated Education week and the theme Celebration of cultures. We explored and talked about different cultures we have in our community and looked at our own culture. Students then made their own cultural family flag which we turned into a collaborative school bunting and hung this up in the office area to celebrate all the wonderful cultures we have in our school community. Last week some of our students started looking at colour theory and how the colour wheel can help us decide different colour harmonies but also how we can mix paints. Then we had a go at mixing our own special colour using colour theory and named our colours as well. Stay tuned for what we do with our 'colours' we created...
