Minasan Konnichiwa! (Hello everyone.)
Welcome to Week 10 Japanese!
Year 3-6
We have been learning about “Japanese Primary Schools”. Students are learning some school-related vocabulary and sentences, and we are looking at some differences and similarities between Australian and Japanese primary schools. For example, we talked about “Kyuushoku”- school lunch and learnt some interesting facts through a quiz.
Year 3-6 students have been fortunate to talk to Japanese students via Zoom for the past few weeks. They introduced themselves in Japanese and asked some questions about them and Japanese school life. Year 5 is going to have a session this week.
These are some of the questions from the Year 3 and 4 students.
Exchange sessions with children in Seitoku Elementary School, Gifu, Japan
Year 1&2
Students are practicing some weather words such as hot, cold, sunny, cloudy, rainy and snowy. They made “ame-rain” picture with the writing of rain and umbrella in Japanese. We talked about how primary school students in Japan all leave an umbrella at school in case it rains at home time, because they walk to and from school.
They have also been learning other facts about school life in Japan and some related words.
Foundation
Foundation students continue to practice greetings, numbers, likes and dislikes, animals, body parts, colours and more. They are very good at saying names of animals in Japanese such as horse, cow, elephant, giraffe, snake, monkey, dog, cat and many more! After greeting individually in Japanese at the beginning of the class, they have been happily singing some songs, practicing Japanese alphabet-Hiragana, counting, introducing themselves with name and age, greeting some friends (animal soft toys), writing and drawing and ending a lesson with origami (paper folding). We occasionally spend some time on iPads to play interactive online games and reinforce vocabulary.
They have learnt so much in this semester. They should be very proud!
Have a good week.
