Grade 1/2 students have been learning how to fracture traditional fairy tales by changing elements such as the setting, characters, resolution, and point of view. We discovered that fractured fairy tales can be made modern, funny, or even combine parts of different stories. After reading The Gingerbread Man, we chose to fracture the story by changing the main character. Each student selected one of their favourite foods and rewrote the story with their new character taking the lead role.

In our Foundation and Foundation/One classrooms, students have been busy learning new sounds to support their reading and writing development. Each week, we explore a new sound and complete fun, hands-on craft activities to help us remember the letter and the sound it makes. These creative tasks are a highlight of our learning, and the students are always excited to discover the next sound. It’s wonderful to see their confidence growing as they practise using these sounds in their everyday learning!

In Maths, Grade 1/2 students explored doubles facts through a fun and engaging activity. They began by rolling a ten-sided dice and recording the possible doubles they could make. Using these facts, students designed their own gameboards. They then played in pairs, rolling the dice and using their doubles knowledge to move around the board. This hands-on game helped reinforce their recall of doubles facts in a meaningful way.
