On Monday, 21 October St John's celebrated our Term 4 Better Buddies Day led by Charlie, Lolita, Antony, Alicia, and Tiago in partnership with teachers Brooke Davis and Simone Porthouse. Better Buddies is an initiative of The Alannah and Madeline Foundation designed to create friendly and caring school communities where bullying is reduced Better Buddies Website
The focus of our Better Buddies Day was "Including and Caring for Others." This day was planned to support all students, new and old, to feel welcome and safe, further building friendships and positive relationships across the school, enhancing a sense of belonging and connectedness.
Students worked in cross-aged groupings, learning about our faith-based values while participating in a range of fun activities. Students took part in a Spaghetti Tower Challenge, designed a diamond to add to our whole school artwork 'St John's Shines,' and reflected on empathy while watching A Little Spot of Empathy.
A highlight of the day was student participation in outdoor games facilitated by our Student Wellbeing Student Action Team: Charlie, Lolita, Antony, Alicia, and Tiago. We congratulate these student leaders for their organisation as everyone played Follow the Leader, Ball Twist, Hula Hoop, Farm Yard, Ping Pong Launch, and Bean Bag Race.
The day finished with a Better Buddies Day Whole School Assembly. We congratulate the many students that shared their learning at the assembly, focusing on the Learning Powers that they used throughout the day. Please see the assembly slideshow below;
