Sustainability Update
Our students have been working hard this term to keep the school clean and to achieve our current sustainability school goal of recycling our waste effectively and using the correct bins. A big shout out to the students that have been spotted picking up rubbish and carefully using the correct bins! Congratulations to 4W who have won Joey already this term. Well done on making a consistent effort to recycle, compost and carefully dispose of rubbish. Using the correct bins in the classroom and on the yard will remain a goal for us as a school community.
Well done to our fantastic Garden Club crew. They have been busy bees weeding, watering, planting and harvesting in our school garden. The team work has been such a delight to witness as the green team tackled some very deep rooted and ginormous weeds, which had grown over the school holidays. Some of our amazing grade 4 students consistently contribute to Gardening Club sessions and have been instrumental in maintaining our school garden! We even had a lovely live performance from Zoe, Ashleigh, Clemmie, Eva and Lily during gardening club this week!
We were very lucky to have another visit from Rose and Nat from Bunnings, who kindly donated plants for our summer crop. They also donated blueberry and mulberry plants. The Environment Leaders displayed excellent teamwork and learnt lots about caring for our school garden when planting our summer veggies. They composted the veggie beds and pulled any old plants which needed to be removed from the beds and harvested vegetables such as carrots, cabbages, snow peas, spinach and parsley.
If any members of our parent community wish to come along and help out in the garden, please reach out to Mrs Doran. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We have Gardening Club each Monday from 11.05-11.45am or Thursdays from 11:05-11.45. If parents are free to come along and help out please email Mrs Doran at ldoran@sjelst.catholic.edu.au. Any helpers are most welcome!
