In reading, we have been exploring different comprehension strategies and literary devices. The students have been diving deep into understanding texts and practising skills like inferring, summarising, and making connections. It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm grow as they apply these strategies when reading independently.
This term, we have ventured into the world of poetry. So far, the students have written acrostic and personification poems, which has allowed them to explore creative expression in a new way. They have been thinking like poets and bringing inanimate objects to life with their words. Here are some samples from our students:
In mathematics, students have sharpened their skills in place value and have tackled more complex concepts such as solving missing number and missing operation equations. Alongside this, we have been revisiting perimeter and practising those very important ‘Times Tables’! A good knowledge of multiplication facts will help our students when they get to secondary school.
We have launched our new and final inquiry unit for the year, which explores celebrations around the world. This unit delves into how different cultures express themselves through traditions, festivals, and ceremonies. It’s an enriching way for them to develop a deeper understanding of the diversity in our world.
Our recent excursion to the Shrine of Remembrance was a memorable experience. Students had the opportunity to learn about Australian history and the significance of the Shrine in commemorating those who served in the armed forces. The students admired the impressive building and the guides taught us about all the symbols in and around it – the plants and statues, the eternal flame, the many different squad pennants, and the display of medals.
