Physical Education
Physical Education at BEPS this year provided students with a wide variety of sports and physical activities designed to develop skills, teamwork and a love for movement.
In Term 1, junior students focused on developing their Fundamental Movement Skills, exploring the difference between dynamic and static movements through gymnastics. They worked together to create and complete obstacle courses while learning to cooperate and synergize in team activities. Senior students engaged in an extensive athletics unit, honing their techniques and learning how to fairly record their attempts. Their hard work culminated in the BEPS House Athletics Carnival at the end of the term.
In Term 2, junior students focused on building their throwing, catching, and kicking skills. Senior students delved into fitness, exploring cardiovascular health and completing the beep test. They also designed and filmed their own fitness videos, showcasing proper techniques and the benefits of various exercises. All students learned soccer fundamentals, including dribbling, passing, and shooting, culminating in small, modified games.
In Term 3, students embraced the spirit of the Olympics by learning about its history, participating in forgotten events, and exploring the Olympic values of respect, friendship, and excellence. Junior students engaged in traditional Olympic events such as athletics and gymnastics. Inspired by the games, senior students designed and modified their own inclusive activities, which their peers then played and evaluated. All students participated in a basketball unit, developing their skills and understanding of the game, while students in Years 4, 5, and 6 were fortunate to take part in a La Crosse program delivered by players from both Australia and the United States.
In Term 4, students delved into striking & fielding and net/wall sports, exploring the similarities and differences across games like tennis, bat tennis, badminton, T-ball, and rounders. Junior students worked on mastering basic skills, grips, and techniques, while senior students focused on offensive and defensive strategies in gameplay. Students also strengthened their collaborative skills by synergizing to solve movement challenges.
This year in PE has been filled with energy, growth, and teamwork. We are so proud of our students for their enthusiasm, resilience, and effort in every activity.
Athletics
In 2024, Year 3-6 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the BEPS House Athletics Carnival. Students showcased their skills across a variety of events, including running races, fun relays, throwing, and jumping activities. The day was filled with energy and enthusiasm, with incredible displays of sportsmanship and team spirit from all participants. Students who excelled at the carnival earned the chance to represent BEPS at the Monash Heights District Athletics Carnival, where they once again demonstrated respect, resilience, and the true spirit of competition while achieving outstanding results.
Cross Country
In Term 2, students took part in the BEPS House Cross Country Carnival, where the 9-10 year-old competitors completed a 2km course, and the 11, 12 and 13-year-old competitors tackled a challenging 3km run. It was inspiring to see so many students striving for excellence, pushing their limits and cheering on their peers. The top 10 boys and girls from each age group advanced to the District Cross Country event, where they continued to push themselves even further, representing BEPS with pride.
