Music & Performing Arts

What a fantastic year in Performing Arts the students have had, building on their music and performing arts skills! It has been wonderful to see their confidence and abilities flourish throughout the year, as they embraced new challenges and expressed their creativity in both music and drama. From mastering instruments to singing with confidence and exploring dramatic expressions, the students have truly grown and developed their talents. It’s been a joy to witness their progress and enthusiasm!

Foundation 

In Foundation this year, students made great strides in developing their performing arts skills. They focused on building their singing abilities, learning to pitch notes and sing along with the music. Much of the year was dedicated to laying the foundations of music and drama, while also gaining the confidence to share their learning. They learned how to hold a ukulele and play the C and F chords, even mastering the challenge of singing and playing at the same time. Students had a great time exploring percussion instruments, creating rhythms and sounds together. They also enjoyed a variety of drama activities and music games, allowing their creativity and confidence to shine!

 

Year 1 and 2 

In Year 1 and 2, students continued to develop their performing arts skills in music and drama. They learned to play the ukulele, mastering the C, F, and G chords, and enjoyed the challenge of singing while playing. Students shared their learning with others and sang a variety of songs, improving their vocal pitch and growing in confidence.They explored different rhythmic patterns through clapping and playing percussion instruments. Drama activities and music and drama games were also highlights, giving students the opportunity to express themselves creatively while building teamwork and confidence. It was wonderful to see their skills flourish throughout the year!

 

Year 3 and 4

In Year 3 and 4 this year, students explored a wide variety of cultural music, broadening their musical understanding. They worked on improving their vocal pitch through singing different songs and further developed their ukulele skills by mastering the C, G, and F chords, as well as learning to play and sing at the same time. Students had the opportunity to deepen their music knowledge, exploring elements such as dynamics, pitch, melody, tempo and form. They also enjoyed playing a range of percussion instruments and using music technology to enhance their learning. In addition, students took part in various drama activities and enjoyed engaging in fun music and drama games, building both their performance skills and confidence.

 

Year 5 and 6 

In Year 5 and 6 this year, students explored a wide range of cultural music, expanding their musical horizons. They learned to play the ukulele, mastering the C, G, F, and G7 chords, and developed the skill of playing and singing at the same time. Students further honed their music skills by exploring key elements such as dynamics, pitch, melody, tempo, form and composition. They also played a variety of percussion instruments as well as doing body percussion rhythmic patterns. Additionally, they had the opportunity to experiment with pentatonic and ostinato patterns on instruments like the piano, glockenspiel and xylophone. Throughout the year, students thoroughly enjoyed participating in various drama activities and music games, which helped enhance their creativity and performance skills.
