Gardening Club
There have been many highlights throughout the year in the Gardening Club. The biggest highlight has been the return of a flock of chickens to BEPS. Students were involved in naming and caring for the 5 chickens, Chanel, Albertina Eggstein, Chicki, Happy Feet and Jemima. Tasks included feeding, filling water containers, laying fresh straw in nesting boxes and even feeding them special treats.
We grew tomatoes, strawberries, broccoli, cauliflower and peas throughout the year, planting a mixture of seeds and seedlings and watering our garden using the hose and watering cans. We loved eating what we grew straight from the garden. We even picked mint leaves and put them in our water bottles to make it taste yummy!
Our other highlight was creating and maintaining a worm farm. We learnt about what foods worms like to eat and what foods make them sick. We also explored why they and other animals are important to our ecosystem including butterflies and spiders.
