Expert Robotics Club
During 2024, seven Year 5 and 6 students eagerly participated in the Expert Robotics club, giving up their Thursday lunchtimes to plan, research and construct EV3 or Spike robots. Along with constructing the robots, students programmed these robots to complete certain tasks.
One team focused on the Mighty Maisy competition, where the robot had strict movements and instructions to follow and compete. The blurb for this competition was there was a fallen building (the maze), with multiple victims critically injured or trapped (red and green pieces of tape). The robot moved autonomously to count the number of victims and report to a finishing base. During these challenges, the robot must start and finish on the foil, avoid holes and other obstacles.
While the other team focused on the Simple Simon Soccer competition. This competition involved playing multiple games, consisting of two five-minute halves, during which students switched sides at halftime. The team that scored the most goals, counted when the ball hit the back of the wooden net, was declared the winner. With many years of practice, testing, altering and technical glitches, students were able to celebrate their hard work during the Regional and State RoboCup competition.
Future Expert Robotics students have begin planning and crafting their robots for their chosen competition (OnStage, Simple Soccer, and Mighty Maisy) in 2025.
