Highlights in Year 2

Highbury Park Walk

As part of our Term 1 Inquiry unit “Healthy Communities,” Year 2 students embarked on an exciting walk around Highbury Park and Tally Ho to explore the local facilities. The experience allowed them to observe firsthand the features that contribute to a healthy and active community, such as parks, recreational spaces, and public amenities. Students engaged in discussions about the importance of these facilities in promoting physical well-being and social interaction. They concluded the outing with joyful playtime at the playground, where they put their learning into action by being active and collaborative. The excursion was a valuable hands-on learning opportunity fostering community awareness.

Botanic Gardens

In Term 2, all of Year 2 students went on a fun trip to the Botanic Gardens. We took a bus there and enjoyed a lot of walking around, exploring the beautiful plants. The weather was really warm, but we still had a great time, especially playing in the piles of leaves. It was a fantastic day outdoors, full of adventure and nature!

ACMI

The Year 2s were full of excitement as we went on a trip to ACMI in the city! It felt like we were time traveling as we explored different types of technology. We saw old-fashioned horses and got to compare past and current electronic devices. The trip was a great way to learn about the past, present, and future for our Term 3 Inquiry topic. We did a lot of walking with all the Year 2 classes, our teachers, and parent helpers.

Year 2 Sleepover Fun

In Term 4, Year 2 students had an exciting sleepover in the new classrooms. We kicked off the night playing fun games in the COLA, including Fruit Salad. We also teamed up for a quiz challenge, testing our knowledge in groups. After all the fun, we settled into our sleeping bags watching A Bug's Life together with popcorn before getting a night of rest. The Year 2 Sleepover was a memorable adventure that we’ll never forget!

Year 2 Colour Run

The Year 2s had an unforgettable time at the Colour Run! We ran alongside the Foundations and Year 1s, and although it was exhausting, we had so much fun. We got sprayed with water and then covered in colourful powder by the teachers and parents. We ran around the oval several times and got soaked. Some students even got to throw slime at us! The Colour Run was an amazing event full of laughter and excitement!

Inquiry Food Workshop

As part of our Term 4 Inquiry Unit, we investigated “How has immigration impacted changing food cultures in Melbourne”. We had a blast making different tasty treats! We started by making fairy bread and Vegemite sandwiches. Then, we worked with Rebecca to make tzatziki and enjoyed it with pita bread. With Emma, we made hummus and paired it with carrot, celery sticks, and more pita bread. We also made rice paper rolls with Anna, filled with rice noodles, lettuce, carrot, and cucumber, and dipped them in sweet chilli sauce. The food was absolutely delicious, and we had so much fun making and eating together!
