Highlights in Foundation 2024

Foundation 100 Days of School

In Term 3, the Foundation students celebrated being at school for 100 days! It was very exciting dressing up as 100 year olds and doing a parade for the rest of the school. During the day, we engaged in a variety of activities to practice counting to 100. We splatted 100 dots of playdough, counted 100 unifix blocks and even made fairy bread using 100's and 1000's which we got to eat as well.

Swimming Program in Term 3

In Term 3, the Foundation students participated in the whole school swimming and water safety program. We learnt how to be safe around different bodies of water and practiced skills such as floating, kicking and blowing bubbles. On the last day we got to play some very fun games using all of our newly learnt skills. It was a very exciting time for everyone, especially for those swimming for the first time and we look forward to using these new abilities at the local swimming pool this summer.

Foundation Excursion to Como House

In Term 4 the Foundation students visited Como House. It is 177 years old! We played old fashioned games such as drop the hanky and croquet and went on a scavenger hunt to solve the mystery of who broke the china doll. We practiced working like the servants used to by washing the clothes by hand and answering the bells in different rooms. We even learnt how to walk up the stair case properly in the big old house, and danced in the ballroom. We compared the way people lived in the olden days to our present lives. It was extremely different!

Buddies

Throughout the year, Foundation students spent a session every fortnight with their Year 4 Buddies. We did a variety of activities together, including creating our own monsters and describing them, ordering the seasons, making paper aeroplanes and even eating our lunch together. We loved spending time with our buddies and learning new skills and how to make new friends with them. We even celebrated our final session together for the year with a Teddy Bear Picnic, bringing our favourite soft toys to participate in a scavenger hunt, pass the parcel and musical statues.

Colour Run

In Term 4 Foundation participated in the whole school fundraising Colour Run. It was very exciting running around the oval and being squirted with water and coloured powder thrown on us! Some of our students were among the top 10 fundraisers in the school which meant they joined the Slime Academy for the day, throwing sticky and gooey slime onto other participants. We all had a fabulous time getting colourful and wet!
