YEAR 7
Year 7 Key Information:
- This week, students reviewed their report cards from Term 3. Pastoral mentors checked in with students and discussed their academic goals. Please continue sharing these discussions at home to ensure your child meets the set goals.
- Social media and communication on digital platforms have become normal parts of preteens' and teens' lives. However, it is widely recognised that significant harm can arise with unrestricted access. A key resource for parents looking for support in this area is the eSafety Commissioner (esafety.gov.au); tools include information about parent controls and monitoring, having conversations with your child about online safety, and reporting inappropriate behaviour. I strongly encourage parents to become e-literate and aware of how to approach and manage these issues should they arise.

Whole of College Key Information
- Best of luck to the Year 12 students commencing their external exams over the next three weeks. We know their hard work and dedication over the past two years of senior schooling will pay dividends. All students in years 7-11 must remain away from the Hugh O'Brien Center (HOB) over this period to avoid disturbing the Year 12 students.
- Next week, we will recognise all staff members and their dedication to education at St Mary's with World Teacher's Day celebrations! This is a special day to pay tribute to the continued hard work staff at St. Mary's does to support our school community.
- Our upcoming Awards Evening is set to occur in Week 7, Monday, November 11. Families and students will be notified shortly regarding their attendance at the event as award recipients. We encourage students to ensure they wear their best St Mary's formal uniform and polish their shoes for this important college event. We look forward to celebrating the achievements of students at St Mary's!

SCHOOL TV SPECIAL REPORT: The Cost of Living Crisis
In our ever-changing economic landscape, parents and caregivers are increasingly faced with the task of discussing growing expenses with their children. While the instinct may be to shield young people from life’s challenges, there's a growing belief that addressing real-world issues, including financial uncertainties, can foster resilience and understanding. Striking a balance between protection and education is crucial for those looking to empower their children.
To effectively introduce the topic of finances, we need to be mindful of the timing and setting of the conversation. Using straightforward, age-appropriate language helps maintain transparency, and openly discussing adjustments to the family budget can carry significant weight. Parents can nurture a sense of responsibility by encouraging children to participate in finding creative ways to save and make thoughtful spending choices.
This Special Report offers a valuable opportunity to enhance children's financial literacy and equip them with the resilience needed to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
