Important Reminders!

All important dates and events are on our Compass Calendar, please check the calendar regularly to stay up to date!

  • Take-home books: students need to bring their take-home book to school every Monday so they can get a new book for the week to practise at home. We are noticing a large number of students who are forgetting. Ensuring your child returns their book each week will help them make the most of their at home reading experience.
  • Colour Run: November 8th
  • Curriculum day: Monday 11th November
  • Excursion: Melbourne Zoo 18th November - If you are interested in being a helper, please click the link to the google form. This must be completed by by Friday 8th November. https://forms.gle/L2FZ6jR6jchYuCJu8

Learning in Action

Literacy:Students have read the narratives ‘Quiet Girl’ and ‘Saved’. Students retold the stories by identifying the characters, settings, problem and solution. In Writing, students have devised a plan to write their very own narrative, accepting the challenge to write 3 sentences, with a beginning, middle and end. Through their writing, they have made a conscious effort to work on the spaces between words to ensure other people can read it. In Word Work, students have worked on reading and writing words with consonant digraphs such as ‘sh, th, ng, ch’.

Preview - Students will listen to more narratives with a focus on identifying the plot. They will continue to engage in narrative writing to develop their skills.

Maths: Over the past fortnight, students have continued learning about sharing and that it means to share something into equal groups. Students learnt how to read the problem e.g 20 (cookies) SB (shared between) 5. Students enjoyed a creative activity where they had to share their cookies between two plates for their Cookie Monster.

We have also started learning about Money. Students have learnt what money is, why we use it and discussed if they have ever bought something with their own money. Students explored the various coins and notes through play and enjoyed learning about the value of money.

This week, we have revisited our location unit, where students have revised location words and worked collaboratively to give and follow directions.

Preview - Over the next few weeks, students will revise all the maths number concepts they have learnt this year.

Inquiry:Our Prep students have been having a fantastic time learning about living things and their special features. Over the past two weeks, they’ve taken part in fun activities that sparked their creativity and helped them understand the world around them. To start, the students learned about different living things, from small bugs to big animals. They discovered what makes each one unique and important in nature. Then, they used plasticine to sculpt their own living creatures! Next, the students explored where living things can be found around the world. They discussed different habitats, like forests, deserts, and oceans, and how these places help living things survive. Finally, the students reflected on their plasticine creatures and created 3D habitats using paper.

Preview - We will be learning about waste and the impact it has on our environment.

WELLBEING: This term, our Prep students have been learning about their hopes and dreams for the future. They’ve been thinking about what they want to achieve, whether it’s becoming a doctor, an artist, or even an astronaut! An important part of this topic has been understanding that their dreams are not limited by whether they are a boy or a girl. All students can pursue any path they choose. Through activities and discussions, our Prep students are discovering that they can be anything they want to be. This positive message helps create an inclusive environment where every child feels inspired to dream big.

Preview - Students will talk about what to do if someone tells them that they can’t do something because of their gender. eg. You can't play footy, you're a girl.
