Exeat weekend
Our boarders areenjoying an exeat weekend and can return to Saints from 4pm on Sunday 3 November when all residences will reopen. If boarders are flying back into Cairns earlier on Sunday because of flight availability, arrangements will be made to collect them if required. Please note that it is not a long weekend for St Augustine’s as there is no student-free day on Monday.
A reminder to families that an exeat weekend is not designed for students to have days away from school on either side of the weekend. The boarding and day school have clear expectations about school attendance, and we ask our boarding families to ensure that unnecessary leave is not requested on such a weekend. If there is a valid reason for a student to miss school, a Request for Student Absence form must be submitted to the day school well in advance of an exeat weekend.
Boarder of the Week Awards
Congratulations to the following students who received the Boarder of the Week Award for their respective residences in Week 4.
Juniors — Nadia Nupiri (Spirit of Lower Ambrose Residence) and Taylan Avenell
Seniors — Danaya Dodds and Linkin Stoddart
Senior boarding awards
During the final Mass for our Year 12 boarders we presented the Spirit of Chavoin and Francois awards. Congratulations to Lily See Kee and Finn Dryden. These awards are given to those who have exemplified the true boarding spirit of their residences.
St Monica’s College held their annual awards night last week, and we congratulate Nadia Nupiri in Year 9, who was presented with the Spirit of Ambrose Award for the Junior Girls. Congratulations Nadia, and well done to the other girls who received awards.
Weekend outings
Over the last two weekends the boarders have participated in a variety of activities. Recently they spent an enjoyable day in Yungaburra before enjoying a refreshing swim at Lake Tinaroo.
Boarders also enjoyed mini golf and an afternoon at the Esplanade on the free weekend. With only three weekend activities left for the year, we look forward to some visits to popular water spots as the temperature starts to rise.
