Victorian President's Report

Tina King - APF Victorian President

Despite Melbourne’s unpredictable weather last Friday, many school leaders braved the wet conditions to attend our AGM and Seminar. Our keynote speakers delivered engaging, insightful presentations that empowered participants to better navigate the challenges of school leadership which adversely impact upon health and wellbeing.

Dr. Jodi Richardson’s presentation promoted open conversations about mental health to reduce the stigma surrounding anxiety and related issues. Her session provided valuable insights and practical tools to help improve the quality of life for those managing stress and anxiety; sadly pressures and emotions that school leaders regularly encounter in their roles.

Narelle Fraser’s presentation highlighted the consequences of not addressing one’s mental health and wellness.  As a former senior detective with Victoria Police, Narelle’s distinguished career saw her taking some of the Victoria’s most challenging and traumatic cases.  However, the emotional toll of these experiences led Narelle to develop Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.  Narelle openly shared her journey to raise awareness about mental health issues, speaking publicly about her experiences to help reduce the stigma around PTSD.

A big shout out and heartfelt thank you to our partners and sponsors for their generous support of the event. We encourage you to connect with them should you or your school need any assistance or services they offer.
