At the first whole school Assembly, Principal Dr Andrew Cousins introduced the Clayfield College theme for the year 'Be Fearless - Let's Illuminate the Sky.' He challenged us all to explore possibilities, embrace challenges, pursue new ideas and work towards shining brightly. We were inspired by this theme and have made our own Primary Motto for the year: 'Defy Gravity - Reach for the Stars.' As Captains, we hope this will motivate and challenge students to achieve their own personal goals.
We’re thrilled to introduce a new initiative the ‘Study Buddy Club’. Towards the end of the term, when workloads increase with tests and assessments, it’s common to feel like you need some extra support. That’s where we come in!
During weeks 6, 8 and 9 of Term 1, students from Years 2 to 5 are invited on Thursday lunch times in Room 56, for some academic help. Whether you’re struggling with a maths concept, want to improve your reading level, or need some advice on a HASS assignment, Mrs Coote and a team of Year 6 students will be there to help. Keep an eye out for signs around the school, and stay tuned for more dates in Term 2, 3, and 4.
Together, we can defy the gravity of academic challenges and succeed!
One of our other initiatives is the ‘Shooting Star Awards’. Once a month, we will focus on one grade. As Primary Captains, we will meet with the staff in that month's year level to help identify a student who has defied gravity and reached for the stars. The student who will be awarded this may have overcome a challenge, displayed resilience or made a noticeable improvement in a subject area. The recipient will receive a prize and a star badge, which they can proudly wear on their uniform.
We are also keen to help students increase their grit, perseverance and courage. We are going to start a ‘Grit Gravity Cam’ where students can share inspiring stories of times they have displayed high levels of resilience. We will package these stories up and showcase them in assemblies, to motivate and inspire others.
2025 is the year to set goals high and to live a life without limits. We can work together and support each other to get out of our comfort zones. And remember: 'Defy Gravity - Reach for the Stars!'
