Last Friday, 5M lead the first Primary Mass for the year at Sacred Heart Church.5M celebrated the Mass of the day and the feast of St Peter Damian. The class wrote the Prayers of Faithful and chose the songs for the Mass. It was lovely to see so many family members joining the Primary classes for the Mass.
This Friday, 2M will be leading the first Infants Prayer Celebration for the year on Friday, 28 February at 9:30am at Sacred Heart Church. 2M have chosen the theme of 'Images of God' which links to their Religious Education unit for this term. The class have written the Prayers of Faithful and have done a wonderful job at this. All family and friends are welcome to attend the 2M Prayer Celebration on Friday at Sacred Heart Church.
Next Friday, 7 March, our Year 7 students will be leading the Secondary Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Families and parishioners are invited to attend the Mass at 9:30am.
Please note that school Mass times are 9:30am at Sacred Heart Church. Please remember that hot beverages are not to be brought into the church.
The season of Lent begins next Wednesday, 5 March with Ash Wednesday. The marking of the Ashes on Ash Wednesday is an expression of our faith and a sign that we are asking God for forgiveness. It is a time of prayer, fasting and giving to others. Through prayer, we come closer to God so that we are better able to realise our baptismal promise to live justly as Jesus teaches us. Fasting joins us in solidarity with the poor who often have no choice but to go without basic needs such as food, water and shelter. Giving to the poor or ‘almsgiving’ is a sign of our commitment to justice and our thanks for all that God has given us.
Lent prepares us for the season of Easter, the most important time in the Church’s calendar. By praying, fasting and giving alms, we are reminded of Jesus’ death and Resurrection. Jesus brought the promise of hope to all people so that we may “have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10), so that with our neighbours, we can go further, together.
An Ash Wednesday Liturgy will be held at HTS on Wednesday 5 March at 9:15am.
On Ash Wednesday and each Friday during Lent, Catholics are encouraged to abstain from eating meat. We will have "Fish Day on Ash Wednesday" next Wednesday, 5 March. The canteen will kindly donate a percentage of sales from all fish orders to Project Compassion. Please place orders by Monday, 3 March at 12noon.
These items will continue to be on the Spriggy Schools Menu for the remainder of the term each Friday for Lent.
Ash Wednesday Mass and the distribution of Ashes will take place at Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, 5 March, at 7:00am.
