Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

With the beginning of Week 6, we hit the halfway point of the term and the Summer season. With three rounds of sport now behind us, all the codes are hitting their straps, both in training and games. The start of the season has delivered a great base for the boys to develop their skills from and I look forward to seeing their continued development over the remaining three weeks of this term. I challenge all the boys to lift their intensity at training and work as they would in a game. An increased focus and attention during training will bring greater rewards during games on Saturday. Let’s train the way we play.
On Monday afternoons, there are a large number of boys that need to be collected from the kiss and drop area on Edgar Street after training. While the Kiss and Drop is not officially in action, I would ask parents/carers to please stay with their cars and not park and leave them when collecting their son(s) on Monday afternoon. Parked cars disrupt the flow of traffic and can be hazardous as cars drive around them to pull over to collect the boys. It is also an opportune moment to remind parents/carers that training on Monday concludes at 4:45 PM and boys need to be picked up promptly at this time. Boys should not be waiting on Edgar Street at 5:15 PM, half an hour after training has finished.
Cultural Co-curricular activities have kicked off with Junior School Justice (JSJ) group having met for the first time last Wednesday, Debating trials beginning this Wednesday afternoon and Chess trials to begin shortly. It has been great to see healthy numbers of boys interested in Chess and Debating. It would be great to see some more interest in JSJ, boys are able to play sport and be involved in the JSJ groups. I would also like to see some more boys from the Junior School involved in the choirs and music offerings of the College. We are very fortunate to have a wide range of opportunities for our students and it would be great to see some more boys take on some of these activities. Often, it is the boys that have been heavily involved in a range of Co-curricular activities that excel at the end of their schooling in the HSC.
Some advanced notice of the Junior School Supporters’ Day. The Junior School will be involved in supporting the First Rugby and Football on Saturday 5 April. This is our traditional competition weekend with Trinty Grammar, both schools vying for the Black and Green Shield. Supporters’ Days are compulsory for all boys and if they are unable to make 5 April, they will be allocated to another day. Boys that have older brothers will be able to attend with their brother either on the Junior School Supporters’ Day or the allotted day of their siblings’ year group. Year coordinators and heads of sport should be notified of any student not attending their year groups’ assigned day. There will be more details about the Junior School Supporters’ Day closer to the date. Boys should wear their black Supporter’s polo for the day and the College tracksuit, if it’s cold.
The Junior School Winter Sport trials will begin at the conclusion of the Summer sport season. All trials will be held on school grounds and dates and times will be released soon. Please be aware that not all age groups will trial for particular sports. These are the age groups that will have only one team, therefore not requiring a trial. Boys will be notified of the need not to trial closer to the trial dates.
