Wellbeing Session: Understanding Our Emotions and Strengthening School Values

This week, in Year 5/6, we have participated in wellbeing sessions focused on recognising and managing positive, negative, and mixed feelings. Through engaging discussions and activities, we explored how emotions shape our experiences and interactions. By understanding our emotions, we are better equipped to navigate challenges, support one another, and contribute to a caring and respectful school community.

We also participated in an incursion, ‘Courage to Care’. We learnt how to identify stereotypes, and they offered us valuable strategies to critically assess and overcome these preconceived notions, encouraging us to foster a more inclusive mindset.

These sessions reinforced the importance of starting the year with a positive mindset, while also linking back to our core school values of Respect, Resilience, and Responsibility.

Numeracy Focus: Collecting and Analysing Birthday Data

In Numeracy, we have been developing our data collection and analysis skills by exploring birthdays. We are learning to ask effective questions to gather information, including year, date, and month of birth. Using Excel’s advanced features, we organised our findings into tables and charts, enhancing our ability to interpret and present data in a meaningful way.

Inquiry Learning: Exploring Continents, Neighbours, and Migration Stories

This term in Inquiry, we are beginning to explore the seven continents and learning about our neighbouring countries. As part of our study on migration, we have shared our own family stories while also gaining an Indigenous perspective on movement and connection to land.

Additionally, we have explored the significance and traditions of Chinese New Year and reflected on the history and meaning of Australia Day, deepening our understanding of cultural celebrations and their relevance in our diverse community.

Garden Update: A Flourishing Start to the Year

Our school garden has thrived over the holidays, with a bumper crop of eggplants, tomatoes, and chillies growing beautifully. The multicultural garden is also in full bloom, with vibrant flowers adding colour and life to the space. It is wonderful to see our garden flourishing, ready for us to continue caring for and enjoying throughout the year!
