PREP NEWS

What an exciting start to Week 2! Our Prep students have now completed their first full days of school, and they have embraced the new routines with enthusiasm and confidence. We have been busy engaging in lots of wonderful learning experiences and building strong connections within our classrooms and the school community.

Fine Motor Development

Fine motor skills are essential for writing, cutting, and other classroom tasks. This week, we have been engaging in fine motor activities, including daily Finger Gym and fine motor rotations. These activities help to strengthen hand muscles and improve coordination, setting students up for success in their learning.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry learning this term is all about Fairness and Friendship. We have been discussing how to treat others with kindness, respect, and fairness. Students have also been learning about their own feelings and how to understand the emotions of others, helping to build positive relationships in the classroom and beyond.

Specialist Sessions

This week, our students had their very first specialist classes! They enjoyed learning Japanese with Sensei Martin, getting creative in Art with Janine, exploring movement and expression in Performing Arts with Kim, and being active in PE with Mr Stocks. It has been wonderful to see their excitement and engagement in these sessions.

Prep Play

Our students have also been making new friendships and strengthening their social skills during Prep Play sessions on the playground. These sessions provide a great opportunity for students to interact with peers across the cohort and enjoy outdoor play together.

We are so proud of our Prep students for their fantastic efforts this week. We look forward to another week of learning, growth, and fun!

Literacy

This week, we began our Little Learners Love Literacy program! We met two special characters who will help us remember our first sounds – Milo Monkey /m/ and Sally Snake /s/. To reinforce our learning, students created fun crafts to represent these characters. We also started practising our handwriting, developing the fine motor skills needed to form letters correctly.

Mathematics

Our focus in Mathematics has been on counting and estimating. Students explored counting objects in the classroom and around the school, strengthening their understanding of numbers. We also introduced estimation, encouraging students to make thoughtful guesses before counting. You can continue this learning at home by challenging your child to count and estimate everyday items!
