Principal's Report
Having been back at school for a whole week this year, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our students and families on their smooth transition back into school routines, especially during so many days of extremely hot weather! Students have settled into their new classes with confidence, benefitting from staff planning and delivering a comprehensive ‘Connect’ program. Our ‘Connect’ program is designed to support students’ by teaching them about classroom routines so they feel confident in knowing what to expect and how to succeed throughout their school days. I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting classrooms and witnessing such confident learners across all school levels.
Welcome Picnic Save The Date – February 20th 5pm-7pm
Our 2025 Welcome Picnic will be held on Thursday 20th February, from 5pm-7pm on The Green. We are very excited to welcome all of our new families to our warm and wonderful Box Hill North Community. So many families have joined our community this year, and we look forward to celebrating these new members of our community!
Bring some dinner or buy some at our Sausage Sizzle! Set up a picnic area and enjoy some entertainment and community spirit!
Parent Representatives – Years 3, 4, 5 & 6
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be a Parent Representative for Prep, Year 1 and Year 2.
If you are a parent in Years 3, 4,5 or 6 and are willing to be the key communicator for your year level regarding event planning and school fundraising, please contact the office to let us know. Bernie will be in touch to organise an Events meeting later this month.
Canteen Duty
Any parents willing to help out in the canteen this term are greatly appreciated. Please contact the office to volunteer your time during a lunch on a Friday. We will also be training students to manage the canteen this term, so look forward to seeing our ambitious students learning new skills!
2025 Goals – School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support
Our approach to School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support is fundamental to the feeling of confidence students are experiencing to being 2025. We have redeveloped our Acknowledgement system this year, which has brought significant excitement and engagement to students.
As you may know, our students spend their days displaying our four school values – Ambition, Compassion, Courage and Creativity. Staff acknowledge the behaviours that display these values by providing students with tokens that build towards a whole-school Celebration Day. Previously, students would receive a plastic token that would be placed in a jar at the office. Once a jar was full, we would plan a Celebration Day.
This year, we have developed a system that allows students to track the whole-school progress towards a Celebration Day on a Celebration Tree, which will be painted by our very talented teacher Mie-Mie in the school office area in coming weeks!
Step 1: Egg
Every student who receives an acknowledgement for displaying one of our school values will receive an Egg token. This Egg token will be placed in one of the four buckets in each classroom, colour-coded to our school values.
Step 2: Chick
Once a bucket has collected ten Eggs, the Eggs will be swapped for a Chick – each Chick is the corresponding colour to the value it was earned for. One a Chick is earned, it will be placed in the Nest on our Celebration Tree in the school office. 1 Chick = 10 Eggs
Step 3: Birds
Once ten Chicks have been earned for one of the four values, a Bird is earned! 1 Bird = 100 Eggs
Step 4: Celebration Tree
Once students have earned 40 Birds, we will plan for a whole-school Celebration Day. Students will decide what the Celebration Day will be by suggesting ideas to their class Junior School Council (JSC) Representative, who will then take their ideas to a JSC meeting to decide as a whole school.
We are very excited about this new system, so make sure you ask your children about what they have earned an Egg Acknowledgement for this week!
Student supervision before 8.45am
A gentle reminder that students on school grounds prior to 8.45am are unsupervised. A staff member begins Yard Duty at 8.45am. Prior to this time, students need to either be supervised by their parents or booked into Before School Care – TheirCare.
Storm Water Works
This week, works have commenced to update the storm water drainage along the Northern fence line of the school. Thank you to our school community for your patience and understanding whilst one of the gates along Morley Crescent are unavailable during these works. We’re hoping for these works to conclude within a maximum of four weeks.
Bike Shed Access – From Monday 10th February until Friday 14th February the school Bike Shed will be unavailable. Any students riding their bike to school will be asked to instead park their bikes next to the bike shed, in between the ‘Wheel Wall’ and the large rocks (pictured below). We will supervise and rope off the bikes each morning but are unable to assure bike/scooter security during this week. We appreciate your understanding.
