Visual Arts

A celebration of our creativity

Welcome back to the art room!

Introducing our 2025 Visual Arts Captains

Hi, I'm Sophie. I am one of the Visual Art Leaders of 2025. I applied to be an art leader because I love art, and being creative is one of my favorite things to do. I also wanted to have a larger role in the school, and being able to read out star awards, coming in to work with Sarah, and other responsibilities given to school leaders. My favourite thing about art is how creative you can be, and the variety of types of art there is. I love that every art style is different from the other types. My other interests include baking, cooking, helping out at the RSPCA, and dance.

Hello I am Xavier! I am one of the Visual Art Leaders for 2025! I wanted to be an art leader because I love helping out and being kind and art is one of my favorite things to do. I want to bring helpfulness and happiness to Sarah and the school by letting explore the creativity of art! The thing I love most about art is how much creativity and fun you get to put into your work and the pure joy of drawing and shading with pencils and markers. Also in my free time I like to play  video games,  board games, lego and Taekwondo.

What's happening in the art room?

Prep

Prep students have been learning about primary colours and how they mix to create secondary colours. Using paint sticks, they explored colour mixing firsthand. The following week, they practiced holding a paintbrush and using watercolours to create backgrounds for their artwork.

Year 1/2

Our Year 1/2 students have been experimenting with primary colours in their artwork. They painted their drawn icy poles using red, yellow, and blue, then mixed colours to create a blended effect in the middle. Now, they’re working on a new piece inspired by artist Georgia O’Keeffe. Students are drafting their own flower designs and will continue painting them in the coming weeks using paint sticks and watercolours.

Year 3/4

Year 3/4 students have been exploring colour by mixing primary and secondary colours to create their own colour wheels using watercolours.

Now, they are starting their first final piece of the year—drawing an endangered animal using the grid method. This week, they are completing their drafts and will begin their final drawings next week.

Year 5/6

Year 5/6 students have been refining their colour-mixing skills by creating tertiary colours. They tackled the challenge of painting a complex 12-colour wheel using acrylic paints, carefully mixing the right amounts to achieve each shade.

Now, they have begun their first final piece of the year—a replica of Gabrielle Young's vibrant sealife paintings.
