John Snelling – In recognition of many years of continual service to the Boorowa community.
John Snelling has dedicated nearly 50 years to serving the Boorowa community, making a profound impact as an educator, civic leader, and advocate for local engagement. As a teacher at Boorowa Central School for 25 years, he shaped the lives of countless students. His tenure as a Boorowa Shire Councillor saw transformative projects such as the refurbishment of Boorowa’s main street, the creation of the Riverwalk, and the construction of the Recreation Park Rotunda. For over three decades, John has been instrumental in the Boorowa Australia Day Committee, including 15 years as Chair, ensuring the success of events that foster community pride.
Beyond civic duties, John has enriched Boorowa’s cultural fabric by serving on Committees like the Boorowa Irish Woolfest, the Boorowa Historical Society, and Boorowa Arts and Craft Society, and contributing as the
“Voice of Boorowa” on 2LF radio for 18 years. His column,
"Word on the Streets," published in the Boorowa News for nearly a decade, highlights his dedication to storytelling and community dialogue.
