Paddles Up! Year 9 Hits The Water

Year 9 Outdoor Education Canoeing Excursion
Our 35 Year 9 Outdoor Education students had an incredible experience last week participating in a Canoeing Excursion with Paddle Victoria, held along the beautiful Werribee River at Riverbend Historical Park.
Throughout the day, students learned the fundamentals of canoeing, including how to correctly hold and use their paddles, maintain balance on the water, and work effectively in pairs—each canoe carrying two students who quickly realised the importance of teamwork, communication and trust.
A major focus of the session was safety on the water. Students were explicitly taught the correct procedures for managing a capsized canoe, including how to stay calm, support their partner, and safely return to shore. Their maturity and willingness to learn these essential techniques were impressive and demonstrated how seriously they approached the experience.
We are especially proud that our Year 9s consistently showcased the Truganina P–9 College value of Responsibility. They listened attentively to instructors, supported one another, and showed courage and determination as they developed new skills in a real outdoor environment.
Congratulations to all participating students on an outstanding effort. We look forward to seeing these skills continue to grow throughout the Outdoor Education program!
