Primary Happenings

Year 6: Parliament House and Old Treasury Building Excursion
Yin Kik Li, Year 6 Teacher
Year Six had an incredible day in the city, exploring Parliament House and stepping into the shoes of our state politicians in the Legislative Assembly. They even discovered the seat of our local MP, Nicole Werner!
As part of our unit on government and democracy, students took part in a lively role-play, bringing the workings of Parliament to life. The learning continued with a tour of the Old Treasury Building, where they saw the Governor of Victoria’s meeting room and the vaults that once stored Victoria’s gold.
It was a day packed with hands-on experiences, sparking curiosity and deepening understanding. Hear hear!
Spotlight on Science
Carmen Wong, Primary Science Teacher
This year, we are proud to celebrate the incredible achievements of 28 talented students who participated in theScience Talent Search (STS). The STS is a prestigious statewide competition designed to ignite curiosity, creativity and innovation in young scientists. Our students showcased an impressive range of projects, including creative writing, inventions, games, working models, posters and computer programming.
In the Creative Writing category, students Abigail Tan, Avisha Sandanayake, Elda Lau, Oliver Adamthwaite, Chelsea Sprague, Eian Lum, Martin Tang and Wayne Yiu captured imaginations with stories about quantum science, the patterns of the night sky and the magic of light.
The Games category featured Elisha Chan, Charmaine Leung, Charlotte Edgecombe and Jocelyne Li, who created engaging games exploring electricity and the galaxy.
In the Invention category, Harper Yek designed a strategy to assist with Parkinson’s tremors, while Ethan Hopkins developed a device to prevent roadkill, demonstrating creativity and problem-solving skills.
The Poster entries by Alex Tong, Harry Zhi, Sarah Edgecombe and Esme Wu-Hayler communicated complex science topics such as MRI technology, quantum scientist Max Planck and natural patterns in visually engaging ways.
Finally, our Working Model and Computer Program participants, including Luna Li, Eleanor Huang, Michelle Varghese, Mikayla Lio, Isabelle Fang, Martin Neoh, Natalie Rezek, Joshua McCormack, Matthew Zheng and Matthew Anderson, explored diverse topics from air conditioners and optical illusions to plant responses, telescopes and cosmic bumper cars.
This was an amazing opportunity for students to use their God-given gifts in exploring God’s creation through science. We are especially grateful for Mr Soon-Lye Chan, whose inspiring introduction to quantum science and hands-on technical support made this journey possible.
We are incredibly proud of every student for their dedication and perseverance. Their passion for discovery continues to inspire our school community.
