Maths Challenge

Please find our first Maths challenge of Term 4 below!

Imagine SEVEN people sitting around a ROUND dinner table. They have a LONG ball of string. The string is stretched from one person to another. How many straight lines could they make from one person to another (in any order) BEFORE a triangle is formed by the string?

This fortnight...

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back for Term 4! We hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing break and are all ready for an exciting final term of the year- particularly to our Grade 6's who are celebrating their final term at Spring Gully, before heading off to the next step of their school journey! Let's finish with a BANG!

We’ve started the term with some great experiences already. Last week, students enjoyed the Camp Quality Puppet Show, which delivered an engaging and positive message about resilience and optimism. Yesterday’s student-free curriculum day gave teachers a chance to further explore the Berry St program, which promotes student wellbeing approaches and trauma informed practices in our classrooms.

Looking forward, we have several key events coming soon:

  • Health & Puberty Education Sessions in Week 3 & 4: Bendigo Health nurses will visit to deliver two informative and age-appropriate sessions supporting our Health curriculum. See our Compass post from last week for further information about these sessions.
  • Grandparents Day – Next Friday: We warmly invite grandparents and special visitors to join us for classroom visits and morning tea. More details will follow soon.
  • Awesome Day – Friday, Week 3: A fun whole-school celebration recognising students’ efforts and achievements throughout the year.

In Reading and Writing this fortnight, students have begun studying the novel Once by Morris Gleitzman, first exploring the vocabulary, then the themes of courage and hope, and how historical context shapes characters and events.

Our Writing focus has been focused on improving the use of punctuation and connectives to create complex and fluent sentences.

In Mathematics, we have been building knowledge around Measurement and Algebra. Students have been estimating lengths and calculating perimeter, while converting between units of measurement.

Thank you for your continued support—we look forward to sharing a fantastic Term 4 with our Grade 5/6 community.

Warm regards,

Regards,

5/6 Team
