Please find our first Maths challenge of Term 4 below!
Imagine SEVEN people sitting around a ROUND dinner table. They have a LONG ball of string. The string is stretched from one person to another. How many straight lines could they make from one person to another (in any order) BEFORE a triangle is formed by the string?
In Literacy, our Grade 3/4 students have been revisiting narrative writing and exploring how to make their stories more exciting and engaging. In particular, we have been focusing on using adventurous and descriptive language to help readers visualise characters, settings and events.
In Maths, students have been learning how to add and calculate money, using budgeting activities to help students make spending decisions within a set amount. Students have enjoyed applying their knowledge through hands-on shopping challenges, where they had to plan purchases and calculate change. In addition, we have been working with fractions during our bi-weekly Fluid Maths sessions.
TOPIC:
This term, students will be exploring key geography concepts through our unit Our Island Home. They began this unit by sharing what they already know about climate and natural features, and will build on this understanding by investigating different climate zones and natural vegetation. To finish the unit, students will design their own island nation, applying their geographical knowledge to decide on its location, features, and environment. Keep an eye out for some exciting work coming your way!
Social & Emotional Learning:
Our term 4 topic for Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) is Positive Gender Relationships. Throughout this unit, students will work to identify different forms of violence, understand its effects on others, and discuss safe and appropriate ways to respond. Students will also practise help-seeking strategies and will develop their understanding of respect, inclusion and personal safety in a supportive and age-appropriate way.
SEDA Visits
Thankyou so much to Mr Smith and everyone involved at SEDA for allowing us to participate in some fun rotations over the last two weeks! The students had a blast!
