Grade Five

The students in 5MD were asked three questions about their year in Grade 5; enjoy reading their responses!😊

1. What is one word to describe your year in Grade 5?

fun, funny, happy, aWesOmE, eventful, amazing, exciting, inclusive, incredible, good, exhilarating!

2. What is one highlight of your year in Grade 5?

Overwhelmingly Grade 5 Camp, playing with my friends, making friends, the World Expo, cooking, Buddies, I made my best friends ever! and having an amazing teacher and friends.

3. What is one piece of advice you would give to ‘Past You’ about Grade 5?

Always be kind and respectful, don’t give up, don’t worry, prepare for big events and be more active to achieve higher goals, give it a go, don’t compare yourself to other people, be more confident, listen and above all else, Never Ignore A Possible!

Our year together has been a journey that we wouldn’t trade for anything; it was everything it promised to be, and yet there was so much more.

Colour Run: On Friday, 7th October, our school held the Colour Run, and we had an amazing time! Every year level had a chance to run a lap around the oval, dodging obstacles as we went. We got drenched in rainbow-colored powder. I didn’t think it would come off, but after a few soap bars and showers, I was clean! (Just joking—it didn’t take that long.) We also held a fundraiser, and 546 kids donated. Altogether, the school raised $37,195!!! A special thank you goes to our Parent PFA and to the president, Sarah Higgins.

And that was the 2025 Colour Run—IT WAS RIPPER FUN!!!!!

Buddies:

This term, the Grade Fives were able to have two buddy sessions.

The first buddy session was about Chinese zodiac signs. We talked about Chinese New Year and how the zodiac signs were assigned based on the results of a race. Every class read a book called I Love Chinese New Year, which was about a girl explaining all the different ways you can celebrate the holiday. After hearing this, we got curious and, together with our prep buddies, researched which animal represented our birth years. Most Grade Five zodiacs were horses, and my buddy Cici was a rat.

Our second buddy session happened recently. We had fruit and a story, and in my class, we read The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors. After that, we got to have free time outside, playing with hula hoops, skipping ropes, basketballs, footys, and soccer balls. We were even lucky enough to give our buddies a sneak peek at our dances. Having buddies this year has been really fun!

Cooking:

This term, the Grade Fives were lucky enough to make two delicious and unique treats with Jodie in the kitchen!

The classes were split in half: the first three classes made Christmas pudding, and the other three made Jodie’s tomato relish. The relish was sweet and not tart at all—it was absolutely delicious! The Christmas pudding is safely at home, being saved until Christmas Day to be enjoyed with family and friends.

A big shout-out to Jodie—thank you for choosing the Grade 5s for this special cooking session! We had a fantastic time and learned so much.

Dance Production:

This term, the Grade Fives have been practising their dances for the 2025 school dance production, “Oat-pop.” Our amazing dance teachers, Izzy and Kira, choreographed all of the school’s dances and helped us perfect our routines. This year, the Grade Fives have three very unique songs:

Peanut Butter Jelly by Galantis (5LH + 5TW)

No Money by Galantis (5MD + 5AM)

There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back by Shawn Mendes (5LK + 5BR)

Even though we only had three sessions with our dance teachers, we tried to practise the dances most days to make sure we’re ready for the production on Friday, 12th December.
