Grade 2 News

It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the end of the year, and the Grade 2 students have been working incredibly hard. We have been completing a number of end-of-year assessments and finalising report writing, and it has been wonderful to see just how much progress the students have made. We are very much looking forward to celebrating our students and their achievements with you.
Learning in Grade 2
English
In English, we have been focusing on the /zh/ sound, working carefully on ensuring correct pronunciation and spelling. Students have continued to develop their writing stamina, reading fluency and letter formation. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they practise using their new sound knowledge in their writing.
Maths
This term, our Maths learning has shifted to graphs! Students have been collecting data, creating picture graphs and bar graphs, and learning how to interpret the information they discover. They have enjoyed hands-on activities that allow them to ask questions, analyse results and communicate their findings.
Knowledge / Literature
We have begun exploring the culture of Japan, learning about traditions, celebrations and daily life. Students have shown great curiosity and respect as they compare similarities and differences with Australian culture.
Alongside this, our book study for the term is Jetty Jumping, a beautiful story about courage and friendship. Students will be engaging in discussions, comprehension tasks and activities that help deepen their understanding of the themes in the text.
Colour Run – Thank You!
A huge thank you to all families for your support during our Colour Run. The students had an incredible time participating, and we are so grateful for the funds raised to support our school programs. Your generosity helps us continue providing wonderful opportunities for our students.
Reminders
Reader Returns
If you have any take-home readers at home, please return them to school as soon as possible. We need all books back before the end of the year so we can restock and prepare for 2025.
Holiday/Travel Plans
If your child will be travelling or finishing the school year early due to overseas holidays, please speak to your child’s classroom teacher. This helps us support your child’s learning and ensure they complete any necessary tasks before leaving.
Hats
As we move further into the warm weather, students are required to wear a SunSmart hat every day when outside. No hat, no play!
Upcoming Dates
• Wednesday 10 December – Curriculum Day (student-free day)
Thank you for your continued support.
Warm regards,The Grade 2 Team
