Principal's Report

Term 4 is always one of the busiest and most exciting periods of the school year, and it’s hard to believe we are already well past the halfway point. The term has begun with wonderful energy, marked by many celebrations and achievements — and there is still plenty more to come!
I would like to extend our warmest wishes to Chelsea Dalton in the office as she finishes up with us at Wimba this Friday and begins a new chapter at another school. We sincerely thank Chelsea for her hard work, dedication, and the positive contributions she has made during her time at Wimba. We wish her every success in her new role.
Please continue to check Compass regularly for key information and upcoming dates, including:
• 2026 Prep Transition Program & Whole School Transition Day
• Year 6 End-of-Year Events
Colour Run
Our students were wonderfully engaged during this year’s very energetic Colour Run. Despite some uncertain weather, the positive “can-do” attitude and resilience shown by all participants was outstanding. A special thank you to Ms West, Mrs Grech, Mrs Miter and Mrs Champness for organising such a fantastic event. Our Grade 5/6 House Captains leaders also did a terrific job supporting younger students throughout the day.
Curriculum Day – Wednesday 10 December
A reminder that we have an upcoming Curriculum Day on Wednesday 10 December. Staff will be using this day to prepare for 2026, with a particular focus on Mathematics and the implementation of our updated whole-school maths approach. Kelly Club will be availabe.
2026 Grade Placements
As shared in previous newsletters, Wimba PS is unable to accommodate individual parent requests regarding grade placements, friendship groups or specific teachers. As a large school, we follow a comprehensive process to ensure each child is placed in the most suitable learning environment.
Classes for 2026 are created with great care and consideration of each student’s social, academic, wellbeing and behavioural needs. Teaching teams, Specialist staff, ES staff and the Leadership Team all contribute to reviewing placements.
Class lists are developed around key principles such as:
• Balanced mix of genders
• Appropriate academic and wellbeing balance
• Positive social and behavioural mix
• Ensuring students have familiar peers, while recognising that some learners thrive alongside specific classmates
Friendship groups are considered, and staff endeavour to pair students with compatible learning partners while also encouraging new connections.
Our current Foundation–Grade 5 students will find out their new 2026 classes and teachers on Tuesday 16 December.
Year Six Graduation – Countdown Begins!
Our Year Six students are eagerly preparing to celebrate the end of their primary school journey. The excitement is building as they rehearse their dances and get ready for their graduation evening. This is always a special milestone, and we look forward to acknowledging their achievements alongside families.
Student Leadership for 2026
We have begun the process of selecting our 2026 Student Leaders. Mrs Pitman is coordinating this important work, and it’s wonderful to see so many students expressing interest in leadership roles. We are excited to hear their ideas and watch them step confidently into these positions.
Keeping Our School Beautiful
We take great pride in our school environment. Recently, we’ve noticed a few areas that need extra care. A friendly reminder to all students to use the bins provided and help keep our grounds clean and welcoming. Every piece of rubbish placed in a bin helps us redirect cleaning expenses towards other important resources for students.
Assessment and Reporting
Teachers are currently finalising student assessments and preparing End-of-Year Reports. These will be available on Compass during the final week of school. This is a wonderful time to reflect on the learning growth achieved throughout the year.
Enrolments for 2026
If you have a Prep child starting in 2026, please ensure enrolment forms are submitted as soon as possible. Places are filling quickly, and we want to ensure all Coburn families are guaranteed a place.
Last Day of School
A reminder that the final day of the 2025 school year is Friday 19 December, with 1:30pm dismissal.
SunSmart Hats – Stay Protected!
As Term 4 continues, please remember:
• Hats must be worn at recess, lunch, and all outdoor activities.
• Hats should cover the neck, ears, and face.
• Please clearly name hats so lost items can be returned quickly.
Remember: No hat, no play.
Warm regards,
Paul
